My approach to therapy is an eclectic, evidence-based, family-focused approach to assist you in identifying your preferred goals, and promote personal and relational growth. My style of counselling is not a one-size-fits-all approach – I prefer to use my skills to fit your story, rather than fitting your story into my skill set. If freedom is the goal, then we need to understand what you need, where you want to go, and what’s getting in the way. I’m here to help you understand, and extricate yourself from those “stuck” patterns that leave you feeling unfulfilled, disappointed and discouraged.
Since my registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in 2021, I have accumulated a diverse range of clinical experience, working with many kinds of psychological and emotional challenges, and across age groups. I am currently consulting with children of all ages, adolescents, adults and older adults. My special interests include anxiety disorders and OCD, developmental disorders, relationship problems, trauma, family problems and oppositional behaviour. I am also studying towards my PhD in early childhood abandonment and its developmental implications.
Life is too short to stay stuck. Few things in life are more frustrating than finding yourself working endlessly to break patterns that don’t seem to budge. I’d like to be there to support you in that journey, as we identify your roadblocks, and together help you reroute towards the goals you’d like to achieve.

MA Counselling Psychology (University of Pretoria)
I am a registered Counselling Psychologist who works with children, teens, adults, couples and families. I support people navigating anxiety, depression, overwhelming thoughts, trauma, relationship difficulties, or patterns that keep them feeling stuck.
My approach is warm, practical and holistic. I have a particular interest in working with clients to understand the “why” beneath their struggles – looking at the deeper patterns, experiences and ways of coping that may be contributing, rather than focusing only on symptoms and diagnoses. Therefore, I aim to help clients make sense of what they’re going through, challenge unhelpful thinking, and work collaboratively to develop more helpful ways of responding to difficult thoughts, emotions and relationship dynamics. I am also a big believer in using and developing the strengths and resources that a person already has.
My biggest hope is to create a space where people feel understood and supported as they work towards greater freedom and connection – there is so much life beyond survival mode.

Hello my name is Rachel Olden, and I am a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. I hold a Masters of Social Science in Counselling Psychology from the University of KwaZulu Natal, graduating cum laude. My master’s thesis focused on the topic of Betrayal Trauma which looked at childhood experiences of maltreatment and the long-term implications of these experiences on parenting and intergenerational trauma. Through my research I developed a strong interest in attachment, relationships and emotional regulation, which as a result has guided my practice as a psychologist. I hold the philosophy that meaningful change occurs within a safe and collaborative therapeutic space. Therefore, my priority is to meet you where you are. To create a space that allows you to explore all that you were, are and can be with curiousity, respect and care. I value open, honest communication and strive to create a space that is both empathetic and constructive. Therapy with me is not about “fixing” you, but about working together to make sense of your experiences, strengthen your sense of self, and support you in moving toward a life that feels more aligned, connected, and fulfilled.
I have experience working with children, adolescents as well as adults, navigating a range of concerns including; relationship difficulties, emotional dysregulation, trauma, anxiety, grief, stress and low mood. With a particular interest in the role past experiences play in shaping present-day thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. My approach integrates insight-oriented work with practical, skills-based strategies to help you better understand yourself while also building tools for everyday life.
My therapeutic style draws from modalities such as Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy (TLDP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and person-centred approaches. This allows me to tailor the process to your unique needs, whether that involves exploring deeper emotional patterns, challenging unhelpful thinking styles, or developing more effective ways of coping and relating.
